Announcing a new Dental Insurance Code for TMJ related pain!
Medicine Wheel Dental continues to be a fee-for-service practice. By collecting payments from our patients directly we are able to provide a more personalized individual experience with the highest level of patient care. For our patients with dental insurance that includes out of network dental coverage, we submit paperwork and claim forms on their behalf electronically (quickest way possible) so that they may obtain any available benefits from their insurance company. Therefore, we help our patients utilize all available out of network benefits.
Until now, dental offices have had difficulties with insurance dental codes relating to TMJ issues, which has been a very commonly addressed concern here at medicine wheel dental for many years. Our unique approach to addressing TMJ is a combination of specialized dental appliances accompanied with TMJ release bodywork that helps achieve overall body alignment. Dental insurance codes (also know as CDT codes) are often added and taken away each year. In 2019 a significant TMJ related code was added:
- D9130 temporomandibular joint dysfunction – noninvasive physical therapies. Therapy including but not limited to massage, diathermy, ultrasound or cold application to provide relief from muscle spasms, inflammation or pain, intending to improve freedom of motion and joint function. This should be reported on a per session basis.
As this coverage was not previously available, it is now a major advantage for our patients with out of network dental coverage to obtain additional benefits while addressing their TMJ issues.
Please contact our office if you have any questions about this new insurance benefit and to make an appointment if you have or believe you may have TMJ related issues. For our patients or those of you with TMJ related problems, consider scheduling a TMJ release session with Mercedez Lucke-Benedict, LMT at your next appointment including cleanings or as a standalone appointment.
We look forward to helping you while utilizing your out of network dental insurance coverage.
